Kettlebells

I signed up for a 3-day per week Kettlebell Bootcamp. To answer the obvious first question, "What is a Kettlebell?," I'll quote the instructor:
It is a weight in the shape of a bowling ball with a handle. Kettlebells have been used in Europe for many centuries and have recently gained popularity in America. Almost anyone can use them as they are made in a range of sizes from under 10 pounds to over 100. Users never get bored with them because their shape allows for a wide variety of movements, both static and dynamic. Plus, you don't waste time because switching from one exercise to another takes virtually no time at all.
In early 2008, I trained with Kettlebells to get in shape for my wedding.  I prefer strength training as I typically get bored doing cardio.  I also know that I don't push myself as hard when doing cardio.  I'm fairly certain that reading Real Simple on an Eliptical is not giving me the most bang for my buck!  I like strength training as you can feel the results almost immediately.  (30 squats in 90 seconds will make me feel more productive than 30 minutes on a treadmill).  Working out with Kettlebells made me feel stronger, and similar to cardio, my heart rate was elevated for the entire workout - so it is a pretty great combo.

These are Kettlebells.  Kind of remind me of Mickey Mouse.  The yellow is of course my favorite.

It is comical, however, to sit and write about what I prefer in a workout - because really, what do I know?!  I have not worked out since April.  I haven't done squats, gone on a run, or even read a magazine on an Eliptical since APRIL!  And even then - I probably worked out a dozen times at the most.  That is how my workouts typically go, short dense bursts, and then completely sedentary for several months (in this case, 9 months!).  The first workout is always the hardest.  I'm happy to report I survived and I'm looking forward (sorta!) to Friday's workout.

Can't WAIT to see how the Kettlebell Bootcamp goes. I so need to get with a regular workout routine! Between my day job and the Penelope project, I'm a disaster workout-wise.
